Value Stream Mapping VSM

VSM is a technique developed in the USA to visualize the factory floor system of processes and provide a way to visualize how the processes can be improved. AMC VSM trains you to map both the flow of material and information as they move through your operations.

Not Just for the Factory Floor

Not just a manufacturing floor tool, AMC uses VSM in business process improvements that are more office based as well, including product development, logistics, supply chain, and in BPR (Business Process Reengineering) contexts.

VSM Training by AMC

In a typical first time VSM, AMC will assist you in collecting various pre-information which will be used during the VSM. Then AMC world-class Trainers provides your team with VSM training that extends from concept to implementation guidance. During the VSM event itself, the process mapping team walks the factory floor collecting the information to create the Value Stream Map.

How Is This Map Used?

At AMC we use the Map to visualize and describe the flow of both material and information (on one large scale document). The Map helps factory management to visually identify the obstacles to good flow (of both material and information) found in the Current State, and then develop a plan for the Future State improvements to both of these flows.

The Benefits of VSM

The goal of VSM is to identify and reduce or eliminate waste in your factory's Value Stream. Waste in the lean sense is anything that does not add value to the final product and VSM is a very powerful tool to help management and the factory floor stay focused on driving continuous improvement efforts in a consistent direction and improve the flow of products through the manufacturing processes by reducing the obstacles and WIP (Work-in-Process). Improvement of flow leads to improvement of bottom line profitability.
